Junior Food Safety and Quality Specialist Position Details

Employment Type: Full-time, 18-month term contract

Summary

Food & Beverage Manitoba is seeking a Junior Food Safety and Quality Specialist to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of food safety and quality assurance programs for a diverse portfolio of food manufacturing clients.

Reporting to the Senior Food Safety Specialist, the successful candidate will assist with the development of food safety documentation, food labelling compliance, audit preparation and support, employee training.This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to build a career in food safety and quality assurance while working closely with industry professionals and Manitoba’s food manufacturing sector.

Job Duties

•       Assist in the development, review, and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

•       Support the implementation and maintenance of HACCP plans and prerequisite programs.

•       Participate in internal food safety audits.

•       Assist clients with food label reviews, ingredient lists, and Nutrition Facts Table (NFT) development to meet Canadian regulatory requirements.

•       Support food safety training programs by preparing materials and maintaining training records.

•       Support the development of food safety templates, checklists, and implementation tools.

•       Stay informed of current food safety regulations, industry best practices, and emerging food safety issues.

•       Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education & Experience

•       Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Agriculture, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred.

•       1–2 years of experience in food production, food safety, quality assurance, or a related industry preferred.

•       Recent graduates with relevant experience may be considered.

Certifications

•       HACCP certification preferred.

•       Willingness to obtain and maintain other relevant food safety certifications

Knowledge & Skills

•       Good understanding of food safety principles, HACCP, GMPs, and quality assurance systems.

•       Familiar with GFSI schemes such as SQF, BRCGS, or FS 2200.

•       Familiarity with SFCR food industry regulations and standards

•       Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

•       Ability to collect, analyze, and accurately record data.

•       Good verbal and written communication skills.

•       Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.

•       Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

•       Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

•       Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

•       Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to continuous improvement.
