Every year Food in Canada Magazine spotlights ten growing Canadian food and beverage companies they think will be making headlines in the coming year.  This year three Manitoba companies have made that list.

“We are thrilled, honoured and humbled to have been chosen to be a part of this list of amazing Canadian food companies,” says, Peter Fehr, chef and owner of Gourmet Inspirations.  Chef Peter founded Gourmet Inspirations in 2013 with the purpose and goal of creating gourmet, specialty food products that are versatile, convenient and easy to use at home.

Friends were the catalyst behind the establishment of Las Salsas Corporation, makers of Delicious Kicks salsa.  Owner Ruben Marabotto says he would make his own salsa to eat with meals, and his friends were always wanting to take some home.  They encouraged him to start selling in farmers’ markets in 2010.  The name Delicious Kicks comes from the response he got from tasters, who would say, “They are delicious…they have a kick to them.”

Also on the list was Tomahawk Chip Company. Founded by Alfred Lea, it is Aboriginal-owned and operated, headquartered in Riverton, Manitoba.

Manitoba’s food & beverage processing industry is the largest manufacturing sector in the province, representing about 26% of the total manufacturing output, yet it only represents about 4.4% of the total value of food and beverage shipments in Canada.  Having three Manitoba companies on Food in Canada’s list of the ten companies to watch in 2017 is highly encouraging.
